The SOPHOS project has had its kick-off meeting at DSI during Space Tech Expo Europe! Receiving funding from the European Union Horizon program European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), DSI is the consortium lead member and coordinator in the new project Smart On-board Processing for Earth Observation Systems (SOPHOS). The consortium includes members from 3 European Union member states including; Germany (DSI Aerospace Technologie GmbH Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. Universität zu Lübeck ), Sweden (Unibap AB (publ)), and Greece (TELETEL S.A. ) To read more about the partners, visit our “Partners” page.
The number of satellites launched into orbit is increasing rapidly each year, and with it, the complexity and capabilities of each satellite continue to grow dramatically. SOPHOS will design and implement enabling technology for high-end data products produced onboard spacecraft via the implementation of more power efficient high performance space processing chains for various Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) missions, with a focus on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which is one of the most data-intensive space applications currently used.
